West Bergholt Sports Club

The West Bergholt Sports Club has been established to ensure that village residents are able to make full use of the all-weather games area situated on the Lorkin Daniell field adjacent to Orpen Hall and replaces the former Millennium Club.

The games area is available for use mainly for Tennis, Football , Netball and other sports by agreement, on most days from 8.00am to 9.00pm. 

Access & booking

Access is open to club members through an annual subscription (see below) although it can also be hired casually.  A booking system for use is now available through the generous cooperation of The Co-op store in Chapel Road.  At any time when the store is open a booking diary will be held at the till.  Members can ask for the diary and enter the time at which they wish to use a court or courts in multiples of an hour if it is available.  Booking is not essential but if you don’t register your booking via the Co-op then you may introduce confusion into the booking system and be challenged to leave the court.

For non-members booking the court(s) the exact fee (£4 per court per hour, i.e. £8 per hour for football use) must be placed in the cash box which accompanies the diary. The diary will also record the combination number for the lock on the gate at the car park end of the area. This number is changed regularly and under no circumstance should it be given to any other party. Non-members should read and adhere to the rules posted on the noticeboard before use as they form conditions for hiring the facility.

Membership

For anyone wishing to use the play area on a regular basis a family membership scheme is in operation with annual subscriptions costing £45.  The membership secretary is Gill Sims and she should be contacted in the first instance through the E-mail address: WBSC2011@hotmail.co.uk.  Payments should then be made to The Parish Clerk, 17 Armoury Road, CO6 3JN (cheques payable to West Bergholt Parish Council).

Members will be given the combination number of the lock at the car park end of the courts. This will be changed monthly and members will be informed of the new number by Email. On no account should this number be shared with other potential users.

Management

The all weather area is now managed by The Parish Council through its Premises and Recreation Committee. The Millennium Club for members has been disbanded and replaced by the West Bergholt Sports Club. An Advisory Group consisting of users and members of the Council oversees the day to day running of the playing area (Chairman – Chris Stevenson, Secretary - Harry Stone, parish councillors).
