 West Bergholt Football Club
The West Bergholt Football Club we now know was formed in 1938 and runs two teams in the Essex & Suffolk Border League. Earlier teams representing West Bergholt have been around since very early in the 20th century originally entering the league in 1911 as 'the Brewers'. The club trains and hosts its home games in the Lorkin Daniell sports field behind the Orpen Memorial Hall. The Club run Football Fun sessions every Saturday morning, during the football season, for all children aged 5-11 and any child wishing to come along is welcome. Bergholt Heath YFC was formed in 1999 to provide an opportunity for the youth of West Bergholt to play football and 2010-11 sees the Club entering it's 11th season in the Colchester & District Youth League on the back of a successful 10th anniversary season that culminated in a family fun day at Easter 2010. The Club has had a change of officers for the new season, due to the sad passing of its Chairman Peter Redhead. Our long serving Secretary Leslie Wright has moved to replace Peter as Chairman, with David Bowden taking over the Secretarial duties. There has also been a change of manager at under-16 level with Mark Duffy having to retire gracefully due to increasing business commitments, to be replaced by Iain Turner. Our thanks go to Mark for his time at the club and also for his company's continuing role as our main sponsor. Bergholt Heath has also expanded and now has 6 teams registered for the 2010-11 season, one each at Under-8, -12, -13, -15, -16 & -18 age groups. Welcome to the new teams at Under 8 and Under 13 age groups. Whilst many of the players are from the village, players from outside West Bergholt are also welcome. Most of the teams train on Saturday mornings at Poors Field in the village, which is also where the younger teams play their home matches on a Sunday. The Under-18 team home games are also played on a Sunday, at the home of West Bergholt FC on the Lorkin Daniell sports field (Orpen Hall). The club's main sponsor is CFPI - Claims for Personal Injury, and we continue our association with Boydens Estate Agents.
