Committee Makeup June 2008

Where practical each member will be on at least two sub-committees.

At the first meeting following the Annual Parish Council Meeting the sub-committees should select the chairperson for the year. It is advisable to obtain a volunteer to take meeting notes where appropriate which will ensure that actions agreed at a meeting are recorded and tracked during the year. A template for the minutes is available from the Clerk .

Sub-committees exist for:

•    Environment;
•    Financial & general purposes;
•    Hall;
•    Planning.

Chairman’s Role.

The roles and responsibilities of the Parish Council continue to change as Localism takes effect and further powers, and responsibilities, are passed down to the community level by Central Government.  The Chairman of the Parish Council believes it important that West Bergholt PC remains aware of and, where appropriate, aligned with these changes.  As the Chair and a long serving Parish Councillor he believes it is also his responsibility to act as a conduit to other Parish and Town Councils in the Borough and Essex.

As a result the current Chairman of the Parish Council also plays a part in the following;

•     West Bergholt, Little and Great Horksley Relief in Sickness fund – Finance Officer

•     Constable Neighbourhood Action Panel - Chairman

•     Colchester association of Local Councils - Chairman

•     Essex Association of Local Councils – Executive Committee member

•     Local Highways Panel – (newly formed initiative)

He also attends the RCCE meetings where possible and also the Essex Area forum meetings, both of which provide valuable grant assistance from time to time.
