Braiswick
Bridge
Following the successful demolition of the original Braiswick Bridge during a
weekend closure of the A12 carriageway earlier this year, a second closure to
install sections of a new superstructure is now planned to take place over the
weekend of the 18/19/20 May 2007.
To enable the installation works to be carried out safely, overnight total
closures to both carriageways of the A12 will be implemented between junctions
27 & 29 during the above weekend. Details of closures and diversions are shown
on the attached
leaflet.
To minimise disruption in and around Colchester, the A12 will be re-opened to
traffic during the daytime albeit with the possibility of lane restrictions.
The existing temporary bridge and traffic lights on the B1508 will remain
operational during the works with the possibility of short term delays being
experienced at times of crane movements. (See earlier
announcement about local alternative
routes).
A third weekend closure, due later in the summer of this year, will be
necessary for the removal of the temporary bridge. A further newsletter will be
sent out nearer the time.
Boxted Rd and Severalls Lane Bridges
Maintenance works to Boxted Rd and Severalls Lane bridges will commence mid
May and due to complete mid-late June. Where works over the A12 carriageway are
necessary, overnight closures will be implemented. Please refer to the
attached leaflet
for overnight closure times. The county routes across the bridges will not be
affected.
Birse Civils Ltd is the principal contractor, working in partnership with the
Highways Agency and Atkins.
