Workers
Educational Association
The village branch of the WEA welcomes you to join us.
We are a small part of the national 'Workers Educational Association' which
is strictly non-political and open to all. Since 1903 it has aimed to
promote adult education in Social History, Current Affairs, Literature, the Arts
and other non-technical subjects.
The name 'Workers Educational Association' may sound rather stern but in fact
our evenings are friendly and informal and our tutors are of a high calibre. We
have enjoyed courses on the 'Social History of East Anglia', 'Weather and
Climate', 'The Art of Gardening', 'Landscapes in Literature' and 'Natural
History' amongst others.
Autumn courses commence in September and Spring courses in January. They each
last for 10 weeks and we publicise them in the Parish magazines and West
Bergholt Bulletin and by posters displayed locally as well as on the village
diary (here).
Our branch is fortunate in having the use of the bright, well equipped
Methodist Church hall on Tuesday evenings. Located in Chapel Lane, it is easily
accessible from all parts of the village. Indeed, it is so handy that many
people leave their cars at home and walk to the hall. The meetings start at 8.00
p.m. and last for an hour and a half, with a break for coffee.
We encourage you to try one of our courses and welcome you to sample the
first evening without committing yourself to the rest of the course.
