Footpaths

The village makes an ideal start and end-point for walks around the local countryside with many footpaths converging on the village.

Visit the Ordnance Survey Get-a-map service to track possible routes or buy OS Explorer map 184.  Alternatively check out the Hillhouse Wood Wildlife walks here.

 Equestrian

Sadly, West Bergholt is less well-served with bridleways although efforts are being made to extend the East Anglian Farm Rides scheme further around the area.  East Anglian Farm Rides has now opened over 250 miles of off-road tracks and headlands to horse riders on over 55 farms in Essex, with routes starting in Boxted, West Bergholt via Little Horkesley, Wormingford, Fordham, Chapel, Wakes Colne to Halstead and extra routes from Aldham, Eight Ash Green through to Great Tey.  These rides afford wonderful access through rolling farmland.

Lessons & Livery

If you want to learn how to ride to enjoy this different approach to the countryside, Park Farm Riding Centre provides lessons (but not hacking out) in Westwood Park Road, West Bergholt - they can be contacted on 01206 271535.

Alternatively if you are interested in livery for your own horse there is a livery yard right in the village at Armoury Farm Livery Stables, Armoury Road, West Bergholt - they can be contacted on 01206 241939.
